This has been a busy week here at the country house,
The rock retaining wall is complete & the driveway is almost ready for gravel. Watch for pics to be uploaded soon.
We have also done some shopping around for firewood and are now waiting for the first 2 cords to be delivered. All in all, we should need about 10 cords for the winter. It would be nice to get a little more and have some extra just in case we get a really cold spell.
The rush is on again as the almanac has predicted the first snow fall to be in the 3rd week of October, 1 week earlier than last year, and even that took us by surprise, as we were still shingling the roof when it hit overnight on Oct.30. This year, the race is to get the siding up before the snow comes.
Also, the tempo we use to store wood in can only be put up on the second weekend of October, cutting it very close for the snowfall.
I made myself a schedule this week of regular activities related to prepping. Each weekend of the month, I have planned tasks for myself to perform such as checking the cars fluid levels, topping off the charge on 12v batteries, doing a maintenance run on the generator, etc. The schedule lasts for 4 weekends and repeats every month. This way, everything that needs to be done on a regular basis is sure to be looked after. No more dead batteries in a power failure or lack of car coolant when I am trying to bug out. You can use the calendar function of your email program or smart phone to set reminders for these tasks.
All this talk about imminent snow and batteries reminds me that I need to check the get home kit for the car. A change out of clothing and a check on food & gear is in order.
