Clearing For The Garden

Unfortunately, I wasn't able to get the garden in this year due to poor spring weather, and the fact that we didn't move into the house until the end of June.  Here are a few pics from what had to be done.  The garden will be in next spring and we can't wait to start chomping on all those fresh veggies.

Here is the front yard before clearing out 2 huge cedar trees...these things have hundreds of branches when they get to thirty plus feet tall.

After the trees are gone, the space really opens up.  Just the stumps to take care of now.
Just some of the branches that were kept.  Some will become garden stakes and others will be used for things like the compost pile.

Here is the compost pile made from the cedar branches...already full at 3' x 3'.   A second pile will be started next to it.  My favorite ingredient is sawdust from the chainsaw.  It decomposes quickly and leaves behind rich, dark compost.

Here is a view of the cleared yard...all of this will be producing food for the family next spring.  Not sure what I'm going to do with the old clawfoot tub...maybe an herb garden.

This area will be for all the vine plants...3 kinds of squash, cucumber, and zuccinni.
